A dump for a hotel

The name “Holiday Inn” creates a mental image of a worn-out hotel with ugly wall to wall carpets and generic feel of the previous decade. Holiday Inn Bay Bridge Emeryville is not an exception.

Before getting too negative, let’s list the perks of the hotel: big rooms, magnificent views to San Francisco bay from certain rooms and free Internet connection in every room. That’s about it.

Holiday Inn Emeryville -- what a dump

The hotel is located next to busy highway and as there are no double or triple windows, the noise is really distracting in the rooms facing the highway. Always ask room with a view to San Francisco, as it will be relatively peaceful to sleep and the view is much better compared to the parking lot and the highway on the other side of the hotel.

The rooms are big, but not heated properly. There is a clumsy heater in one corner, but it is so loud that you cannot sleep when it’s turned on. The restroom is big, but the shower is a typical US hotel shower with one knob and not enough water pressure. The amenities are really basic and you are better off with your own bottle of shampoo.

The bed itself is sturdy, but the linens are bad and you have to sleep with the bed cover to keep yourself warm.
