Worth of Visit, Iceland (reviewed November, 2004)

Geysir – Geysirs!

The most famous hot springs in the Iceland are near the road to Gullfoss waterfalls — you can’t miss the place as there are hordes of tourists sprouting from buses.

The geysir area has several hot springs and hot mudpots. The most famous geysir of all, “Geysir” is no longer active as people have dumped a lot of stuff into it in attempt to set it off. Fortunately, there is a smaller geysir “Strokkur” that erupts every ten minutes or so. The sight is spectacular.

Beware of the water, it is really hot. When photographing, check the direction of the wind first to avoid nasty surprises when the water comes back from the skies.

You can’t really miss the place, as the geysirs are visible to the road, too. There is also a cafe and other tourist shops on the other side of the road.
