Porvoo old town – Well preserved old wooden town

Updated on June 16, 2007: Added images

Porvoo’s old town is one of the best reserved wooden towns in Finland. The narrow roads are made of cobblestone and the old buildings create illusion of being in 18th or 19th century.

Charm of the Porvoo old town, Finland
The old town is not dead, quite the contrary. The buildings are filled with cafés, restaurants, artists and craftsmen. The houses are quite of a sight also inside, so check out the shops and restaurants.

Tourists in the Porvoo old town

If the weather is nice, the place is very picturesque and suitable for a stroll for an hour or two. The old town is not very large, so you can spot everything in an afternoon, including having an excellent meal or coffee in some of the buildings.

Several years ago I visited Porvoo and found a delightful tea called EMPRESS TEA. I bought some in a shop in Old Porvoo but have not been able to get it in the United States. I s there any way that I can order it? Please let me know. Thank You.Marilyn Sachs

Marilyn, I don’t drink tea, so I’m not the best expert… I didn’t find anything that would fit your description from the web. If you can give any more information regarding the shop or the tea, I can try again.

There is one café in Porvoo (Café Helmi) that might carry that tea, too.
