Café, Helsinki, Finland (reviewed 2006)

JohtoCafe – Café and lounge

JohtoCafe is very nice coffeehouse on the fifth floor in Kamppi shopping mall. The café has an excellent open area in middle of shops with normal café tables and also lounge seats. All normal coffeehouse stuff is available with okay prices. They sell also beer and drinks.

The lounges are very n... More >

Shopping, Vantaa, Finland (reviewed 2006)

Jumbo – Shopping near the airport

Jumbo shopping mall has a dualistic nature; the new part looks very polished and dandy, and the older part is sort of a metal barn.

The location near the Helsinki-Vantaa airport makes the mall a good destination for people sleeping in an airport hotel, as after checking in you can still go and sh... More >

Shopping, Helsinki, Finland (reviewed 2006)

Jungle Bubble – Inexpensive young fashion

Jungle Bubble store in Kamppi looks and feels not to belong there. All the other shops around it are well built and decorated with enough money, but this place looks sort of an outlet store. The good news is that the prices reflect a bit this.

The clothes sold there are mainly for the younger gen... More >

Café, Joensuu, Finland (reviewed 2007)

Kahvila & Konditoria Houkutus – Wonderful cakes

Kahvila & Konditoria Houkutus is the gem of Joensuu's coffeehouses. Located next to Sokos department store (not far from the market square), the café sets the standards for the cakes, pastries and good service in the town.

The coffee shop itself is trendy without being too cold and over-designed... More >

Kamppi – The newest shopping paradise

Kamppi is the latest, the greatest and the biggest shopping mall under one root in Helsinki downtown. Opened on spring 2006, the shopping mall stands on top of the old local bus terminal. The place is a microcity itself; there are several floors of shops, including grocery store, a number of restaur... More >

Shopping, Turku, Finland (reviewed 2005)

Kansallinen Kirjakauppa – Well-stocked bookshop

Kansallinen Kirjakauppa operates three bookstores in Turku area. The biggest shop is located next to the market hall.

The store is a fresh exception to the chained bookstore landscape in Finland. The selection is good and there is a decent English books section, too.

The prices are par with th... More >

Kauppatorin Kahvila Makasiini – Café in an old wooden warehouse

During summertime, the best place to enjoy the busy shoppers of Oulu market square is Kauppatorin Kahvila Makasiini -- a café carefully built inside an old wooden harbour warehoure.

The patio is the best place to be on sunny days, and the interiors have cozy charms while its raining. The café s... More >

Kämp Galleria – Most exclusive shopping

Kämp Galleria is the most exclusive mall in Helsinki. The mall is located next to the only five star hotel in Helsinki, so you can rest your sore feets in their bar.

Kärsämäki church – Black cubic church

People in Kärsämäki decided to build a new church in a location of an ancient church from the middle ages. The church has striking architecture and it has been built mimicing methods from the distant past. Nothing industrially made is used in the building.

The wooden coating (paanu in Finnish)... More >

Shopping, Joensuu, Finland (reviewed 2006)

Kekäle – A clothing gem

Kekäle is by far the best place to buy clothing in Joensuu. Their store is a sort of hidden at one corner of the marketsquare, as most of the floor space is on the basement. They sell clothes for both sexes and all generations.

The ground floor, near the market square, sells young clothing. Desc... More >
