Stockmann – Everything and Beyond

Stockmann department store is by far the best shopping experience in Finland. Their main store on Aleksanterinkatu has eight floors full of goodies.

The first floor hosts the large parfumerie, magazines, candies and big readymade meal counters. The second, third and fourth floor are filled with f... More >

Stockmann Jumbo – Smallest of its kind

Stockmann Jumbo is the latest and the smallest Stockmann department store in Finland -- I'm not counting the outlets at the airport. Despite the size, the store caters for all aspects of living. There is also a miniscule Alko store next to the grocery department.

For the uninitiated: Stockmann is... More >

Suomalainen Kirjakauppa – The bigger bookstore

Suomalainen Kirjakauppa is the bigger of the two bookstores in downtown Lahti. The selection, as one can guess, tilted heavily towards Finnish literature, but there is a selection of English books available, too.

They have a good selection of newspapers and magazines, and maps can be found there,... More >

Suomalainen Kirjakauppa – The both bookstores

Suomalainen Kirjakauppa has two bookstores on the same market square. This sounds stupid, but probably there are some historical reasons behind it -- other one used to be Akademic Bookstore, but some of their shops were sold to Suomalainen chain.

Both stores carry the full selection, including bo... More >

The shops are mostly part of middle level chains, so no extra... More >

Union Design – Jewelry directly from the workshop

Union Design is a collective workshop for goldsmiths, hidden in a courtyard near the Helsinki market square. The entrance is located opposite the old market hall.

URB Clothing – Young fashion

Stores catering for the young adults generation are far and between in Espoo. One of the more pleasant suprises is located on the second floor in Sello shopping mall. URB Clothing is a miniscule store, as seen on the picture, that sells trendy garments for him and her.

The men's selection is real... More >

Vanha Kauppahalli – Culinary delights

Vanha Kauppahalli (The Old Market Hall) is a collection of small shops and cafes near Kauppatori in Helsinki center. There are specialty meat and fish shops, a kitchen utensils stall, wine boutique, chocolatiere and a few cafes and stalls selling snack food.

The ambience of the place is something... More >

Verkkokauppa – Computer extravaganza

Verkkokauppa is the largest and most comprehensive computer superstore in Helsinki. Their flagship (and only) store is located in Ruoholahti, near the western end of Helsinki metro -- not far from the city itself.

The concept of the store is different to normal computer stores. Most of the stuff ... More >
