Restaurant, Hua Hin, Thailand (reviewed 2007)

Amadeus – Bland Thai and some European food

For some reason or another, Hua Hin is filled with European owned restaurants -- maybe the owners are running from old country's tax officials or they have committed some hideous crimes and need to be on the large in Asia.

Anyhow, Amadeus is one of these -- an Austrian and Thai restaurant. An int... More >

Asia Books – English literature

If you run out of books or decide to extend your stay, Asia Books on second floor of Sailom Pavilion shopping mall is an excellent destination for purchasing some more. Unlike traditional Thai bookstores, there are only English books -- and one Finnish, to my big surprise.

The prices are understa... More >

Bally – Exclusive Swiss fashion

Switzerland is home for many other things that watches and cheeses; Bally is a high fashion house originated from there, and nowadays found in every continent of the world.

The Bally design is very subtle, and you need to be a real connoisseur to recognise their clothes on everyday situations. Yo... More >

Books Kinokuniya – Books in the city

'm a huge fan on Books Kinokuniya, the Japanese bookstore chain usually found nearby Isetan department stores. My experiences are mainly from Singapore -- and unfortunately their Bangkok branch was a disappointment.

The English section was quite limited, I was expecting bigger selection in art, a... More >

Camper – Spanish shoes

Camper is Spanish shoemaker with a very distinct identity, and you can instantly recognise their stores anywhere in the world. The store in Central World Plaza shopping mall is not an exception. The layout of the shoes tells instantly that this is a Camper store -- the big Camper sign helps the unin... More >

Central World Plaza – Huge shopping mall

Central World Plaza is a huge shopping center; we wandered around for half a day and still there were some corridors and levels that were left unexplored. The amount of stores and restaurants is just breathtaking -- and some extensions were still quite inhabited.

The shops are mostly midrange, as... More >

Chao Praya – Cruising on river

Bangkok is split by a quite massive river that offers a different view to the vibrant capital city. Hiring an own boat is an excellent way of seeing things that you might not see on foot.

Go to Tha Sathon pier nearby Saphan Taksin Skytrain station, and hire a private boat from the counter. Rememb... More >

Coca – Fusion Asian

Coca is a bit mixed restaurant experience on the top-level floor in huge Central World Plaza. The restaurant looks like a Japanese joint, but serves food all over the Asian continent.

The food itself is good, as usual in Thailand, and dirt cheap compared to Western countries. The service is onge ... More >

Elephant safari – Ride an elephant

There are several elephant farms on the outskirts of Hua Hin city. We visited one, I don't know which as we booked through our hotel, and it was an interesting and nice small excursion to the world of pachyderms (katso Lonely planet).

The price was not bad, 800 baht, and it included transportatio... More >

FamilyMart – Your local grocery store

Buying all food and drinks from hotel pool bar or restaurants is easy and conveniently, but unfortunately quite expensive -- especially on longer trips. Hua Hin is fortunately packed with small grocery stores, Mediterranean style supermarkets.

The FamilyMart chain has several outlets in the Hua H... More >
