Restaurant, Hua Hin, Thailand (reviewed 2007)

Amadeus – Bland Thai and some European food

For some reason or another, Hua Hin is filled with European owned restaurants -- maybe the owners are running from old country's tax officials or they have committed some hideous crimes and need to be on the large in Asia.

Anyhow, Amadeus is one of these -- an Austrian and Thai restaurant. An int... More >

Asia Books – English literature

If you run out of books or decide to extend your stay, Asia Books on second floor of Sailom Pavilion shopping mall is an excellent destination for purchasing some more. Unlike traditional Thai bookstores, there are only English books -- and one Finnish, to my big surprise.

The prices are understa... More >

Elephant safari – Ride an elephant

There are several elephant farms on the outskirts of Hua Hin city. We visited one, I don't know which as we booked through our hotel, and it was an interesting and nice small excursion to the world of pachyderms (katso Lonely planet).

The price was not bad, 800 baht, and it included transportatio... More >

FamilyMart – Your local grocery store

Buying all food and drinks from hotel pool bar or restaurants is easy and conveniently, but unfortunately quite expensive -- especially on longer trips. Hua Hin is fortunately packed with small grocery stores, Mediterranean style supermarkets.

Fuji – Good Japanese

There are plenty of Japanese restaurants in Hua Hin, but the quality varies a tad too much -- and doesn't correlate with the price. Fortunately there is Fuji: a real treat for sushi and other Japanese food.

The ultra-clean and shiny restaurant is located in the new Market Village shopping mall, a... More >

Hagi – Japanese executed badly

Hagi is a modern Japanese restaurant in the middle of Hua Hin's busy tourist district. It is part of Sofitel's hotel and restaurant complex, but looks like a separate joint -- a common trend in luxury hotels in Hua Hin, it seems.

Unfortunately, the restaurant is a big disappointment compared to t... More >

Hilton Hua Hin – Relaxed hotel and resort

Hilton Hua Hin is the tallest building in the city centre, at least for the time being, and it's prime location on the beach and in the middle of the tourist area provides magnificent views from the rooms and the corridors.

The hotel has several restaurants with serve okay food, a couple of bars,... More >

Hua Hin Brewing Company – Australian barbeque

Hua Hin Brewing Company is a shipwreck themed restaurant in Hilton Hua Hin complex. The main entrance in on the street, and you probably cannot miss it.

The food is quite okay, and the place is a good spot for those that are not really into Thai food... Poor you. Anyhow, the prices are a bit high... More >

Hua Hin Market Village – Mall charm

If you have grown fed up with the Thai style shack stores and touts pulling you to see something genuine with special price only for you -- remember, you are unique as everyone else -- go to Market Village shopping mall a kilometer south from the city centre.

The quite new mall is spotlessly clea... More >

Hua Hin Shopping Mall – Mostly junk and rags

The centrally located Hua Hin Shopping Mall looks good on the map, but the feeling evaporates as you step inside. The whole place is filled with small stalls that sell all kinds of rags and other junk. Everything is catered; babies, toddlers, teens, males, females and so forth. Without any specific ... More >
