Penang – Average food from Far East

Penang is a nice looking restaurant in the sort-of restaurant district in Washington D.C. downtown. The place is well designed and has somewhat modern feel.

The service is fast, but unfortunately the food is not that good. It's an achievement to spoil Far-East food as everything in Thailand or Vi... More >

Ray's Pizza – Famous and original

New York City has several Ray's Pizzas, "Original", "Famour" or just plain Ray's. We visited one of them on 7th Avenue between 53rd and 54th Streets, a "Famous Original Ray's Pizza".

The pizzas, sold by slices, were good, but otherwise the restaurant was a bit rundown and dirty. Don't let the pla... More >

Sala Thai – Cheap Thai

Sala Thai is a cheapish Thai restaurant on Connecticut Avenue. The restaurant is hidden in the basement and thus it is easily missed from the street. It is located in a microcluster of restaurants, so there are plenty of other places to choose from in the neighbourhood.

Sushi Rika – Too much sushi

I have learned during a few last months that the sushi portions in Japanese restaurants in the USA are quite small; the difference to the normal situation is huge, as most portions are simply too much for the uninitiated.

Sushi Rika is an exception to this rule. Both nigiris and rolls have good a... More >

Taraval Okazu Ya – Good sushi in western San Francisco

Taraval Okazu Ya is a smallish Japanese restaurant with even smaller sushi bar. There are two dining rooms, one facing the street and other on the back of the restaurant. The sushi bar sits roughly ten people and it is a good choice for watching the chefs making sushi.

The food is good and the pr... More >

Village Cafe – Modern American kitchen

Village Cafe provides modern American cuisine: imaginative salads, huge sandwiches and bigger meals. Unlike some American meals, the portions actually tasty and not just outrageously big. Do not get me wrong; you will get enough food, but you can still walk the stairs without any pains afterwards.
