Park Plaza County Hall – Minisuites

Park Plaza County Hall is a bit hidden gem near London Waterloo station. The newly opened hotel has only suites, and thus is a very good choice for longer accommodation or travelling with children. The location is surprisingly good, as there are several tube lines to central London and the local are... More >

Radisson Edwardian Grafton – Good for business

If you have grown tired to the typical London hotels that are a bit run down and sleazy, consider going next time to Radisson Edwardian hotels. One of them is located at the northern end of Tottenham Court Road, just next to Warren Street tube station.

The rooms are well built and decorated, but ... More >

Ramen Seto – Don't go there

Ramen Seto is a small Japanese eatery near Oxford Circus and Carnaby Street, and it has the dubious honour to be the worst restaurant that I've experienced in London -- not including some stalls in Camden Town Stables Market.

The food is sort of Japanese, but the taste is more greasy than Asian. ... More >

Satsuma – Good Japanese food in the middle of everything

Satsuma is a good Japanese restaurant in the middle of Soho in London. The place does not look like a traditional Japanese place, instead it has got some influences from modern (one could say Scandinavic) design.

There are seats on two floors, and at least on the basement you may have to share th... More >

Shelly's – Grande shoe store

Shelly's is a biggish shoes and boots store just next to the Covent Garden tube station. Their showroom is full of shoes of all sizes, shapes and colours. Both genders have a big selection, but the men shoes look bit duller.

The prices are okay, but sometimes this shows as lack of good design or ... More >

Sherlock Holmes Hotel – Style executed badly

Sherlock Holmes hotel interiors and location are wonderful, rooms are big and clean (with hardwood flooring), but the staff weren't really up to their tasks. We had to wait for ten minutes or so to get coffee in the breakfast table and we were promptly ignored a couple of times. Check-out took also ... More >

Soho's Original Bookshop – Centrally located bargain books

Soho's Original Bookshop is a chain of small bookstores that sells leftovers and other bargainly priced books on the groundfloor and has an adult store on the basement. Their original store is located on Brewer Street, in middle of busy Soho. The neighbourhood might be a bit too much in the most pur... More >

Somerfield – Groceries in Soho

Central London is not the best place to buy fresh vegetables or family sized bag of snacks and huge bottles of soft drinks. In fact, some of the small corner grocery stores look so filthy that I have to check the best before date for each and every product I'm purchasing.

Fortunately, there is a ... More >

The Strand Palace – Good location and not much else

This hotel is about location, location, location. The theatre land and Covent Garden are just behind the corner of this hotel.

The hotel lobby is impressive, but unfortunately the splendour does not continue in the rooms -- they are okay, but nothing special.

Coming from Scandinavia, I'd expe... More >

Twenty Nevern Square Hotel & Restaurant – Subdued boutique charm

The hotel is conveniently located near Earl's Court tube station, at the edge of Zone 1. The neighbourhoods are very quiet, but it's only five minutes walk to busy high street with shops, restaurants and grocery stores.

The room was not that roomy, but enough for two people. All basic amenities w... More >
